Virtual Communities for Educators: An Overview of Supports and Best Practices

This was an interesting workshop, but not quite what I was hoping for. I was hoping for ideas on how to create a well run virtual community - for example as a support for our eLearning faculty. This was more about some good existing virtual communities. Still useful stuff. . .

PBS Teachers Connect - http://www.pbs.org/teachers/connect/ community
TeacherTube - http://www.teachertube.com/ - good, safe community. Wide variety of channels, groups and videos
Flat classroom project - http://flatclassroomproject.wikispaces.com/ - good resource for how to use technology in the classroom, sharing best practices, supporting each other
Teaching every student in the digital age - focus on universal design for learning. Started as a book club but has evolved into sub groups blogs and discussions. http://www.cast.org/teachingeverystudent/
Workplace Learning 2.0 - http://workplacelearning20.ning.com/ - helps educators focus on long term professional development for themselves
